Lighting up your driving path

Lighting up your path
Gabby Hassan
7/29/13

Driving is more than a little dangerous. Did you know that car crashes are responsible for over 25,500 annually, in the U.S. alone? That is an alarmingly high number. I, for one, do everything I can to ensure my safety as the driver, as well as that of my passengers. I do this by demanding seat-belts be worn, the phone is not touched, and the music stays at a non disruptive level. Another precaution I have installed in my vehicle, that not many people are aware of, is my off road automotivelight bulb. I cannot count the number of times I have driven down a poorly lit road, forced to navigate the twists and turns in fear of what might come zooming towards me from the other direction. My off road automobile lights give off an amazingly white bright light that allows me to see everything in my path. In addition, the light warns other cars turning on blind curves, that I am approaching from the opposite side. The bulb is a high intensity discharge (HID) bulb with a color temperature of 8000K, and gives off over 200% more light! That means that it is extremely bright. I feel comfortable knowing that I am making my vehicle as safe as it can be. The automobile accident rates are alarming and getting this bulb is just one more thing I can do to make certain I nor anyone I love, becomes a statistic.
BulbAmerica.com is sells this bulb and at a great price. Don't take chances be safe!

Automatic Bulbs

ON OFF
Gabby Hassan
7/24/13

I’m a pretty frugal person. I don’t buy things I don’t need, I try not to eat out too often, and I never unnecessary days off of work. My one vice is my electric bill. At the end of each month, I’d dread seeing the white envelope sitting in my mailbox containing an enormous bill. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t manage to remember to turn off the lights late at night. Parking in my garage I’d leave the lights on, having a late night snack in the kitchen I’d leave the lights on, watching TV in the living room I’d leave the lights on… you get the picture. After complaining day in and day out to one of my best friends, she finally suggested I invest in small motion sensor lights. That way, every time I use a room, no matter the hour, the lights will automatically shut off due to the lack of movement. Why had that idea never occurred to me?! So, I went online in search of a motion sensor light that wouldn’t break my budget. To my immense pleasure I stumbled upon an Osram Sylvania LED Motion sensorlight on BulbAmerica.com for under $15.00!! I bought a few and installed them around my house in rooms that I usually frequent at night. They were extremly easy to install and are actually pretty cute. The light lasts a ridiculously long time since it is an LED and helped my electricity bill go way down. These days I look forward to finding that white envelope in the mailbox. To me it’s a sign of my small personal victory!

Affordable Security Light

SECURITY
Gabby Hassan
7/22/13

I don’t exactly live in the safest neighborhood. A few weeks ago there was a break in down the street from me and it really had me worried. I don’t have thousands, or even hundreds, of dollars to install a new security system. I couldn’t sleep, and demanded to have someone with me in the house at all times. Even worse, my electrical bill was through the roof because I left my lights on at all times in order to make it appear that someone was always there. One lazy Saturday afternoon, as I flipped through the TV channels, I saw a news report on a special type of light that serves as a burglar deterrent. This affordable, small light mimics a television program, making it look like your TV is on when you’re not home. The light deters potential intruders from entering your vacant home as they are under the impression that it is occupied. The device comes with scene changes, color changes, and a built in sensor and timer. This light is affordable, and worth every cent as it is an LED light meaning it will last a ridiculously long time, and use 50 times less energy than a television! Initially I assumed that it would be a big aesthetically displeasing light, but in fact, it is only the size of a coffee mug! It still amazes me how it manages to give off light equivalent to that of a 27’’ inch HDTV despite its small size. The light allows me to feel more at ease, and while I am aware that it is not the best security that money can buy, I know that it greatly decreases the chance of an intruder entering my home. Now I can sleep easier… and so can my friends and family now that I don’t keep them up with my worried calls all night!
With all the crime going on in the world today, BulbAmerica.com believes in taking every possible precaution to ensure the safety of its customers. The FakeTV is an affordable way to add another security measure to your home. Go to BulbAmerica.com and order one today!

HAVE NO FEAR BULBMAN IS HERE

Advertise with lights

Advertising help

Gabby Hassan
7/18/13

Advertising these days is anything but easy. Getting your brand name to stick into people minds can be very challenging. I have a clothing store located in a big mall, and was really having trouble getting my name out there. I am not a chain store and wanted to be recognized and known by customers who frequented the mall. I tried big signs, personalized, tagging, and even having huge sales. The only problem was that no one was coming to my huge sales. A friend of mine recommended that I add more to my store’s advertisement. So, I did some research and brainstorming and came up with using the Kreios G1 LED Gobo Projector. It is basically a device that projects my brand name all over the walls, floor, ceiling, and constantly moves. I was pleasantly surprised by the traffic it attracted, and now business is booming. I was initially hesitant to get this Gobo projector because I was afraid of the upkeeping cost, but BulbAmerica.com offered me an LED Gobo Projector which lasts for 20,000 hours! I really could not be happier with my purchase. My store is now a household name to the mall regulars, and business is great! Not only did I use the projector for business, but when my daughter had her Sweet 16 we used it to display her name on the dance floor and it was a huge hit! If you need help advertising, or even pumping up a party, I STRONGLY recommend the Kreios G1 LED Gobo Projector.

Time to get the Party Started!

Time to get the Party Started!
Gabby Hassan
7/17/13

Everyone knows the 3 classic necessities to a great party:

Venue, Music, and guest list

However, most people overlook the little details that can really make or break the night. One example of this is lighting; Its not exactly the first thing that pops into your mind when you’re planning a party, but it truly does make a HUGE difference. This past month I went to two parties; one for my friend Sarah’s 25 birthday, and another celebrating my friend Ashley’s job promotion. Sarah decided to go all out rented the best DJ, an amazing venue and invited all her friends for a night to remember. I had a great time, but at times the atmosphere felt a little awkward and dull as the ceiling lights were on bright and shining down on my head like a spotlight. Ashley, on the other hand, threw a very impromptu party that turned out to be an amazing night. No, the venue wasn’t that great, the DJ was mediocre, and the guest list consisted of people I had never seen in my life. But the atmosphere was just… WOW. There were strobelights, multi colored lights, and more. Even if you came with no intension of dancing or socializing, you were drawn in as the lights brightened up everyone’s mood and put them in the “party” mindset. The funny part is, Sarah ended up spending over 4 times the amount that Ashley spent on her party, and it didn’t even compare!

So from one party go-er to another: next time you’re planning an event DO NOT forget to over look the little details such as lighting!

BulbAmerica.com has multi- colored light, strobe lights, and really any other lighting accessory you could possibly need!

The Secret to Flattering Lighting

The Secret to Flattering Lighting
Gabby Hassan

7/16/13

Last week one of my best friends threw a surprise party for her husband and invited all of our friends and family to her house. Everything looked gorgeous and everybody had a great time. However, I could not help but notice how magnificent her living room looked. In particular; her couch and curtains. In fact,  it kind of bothered me as we bought them together and I have the same exact couch AND curtains! As the party got started I soon forgot my irritation and just enjoyed myself. The next day, hundreds of photos from the party were uploaded to Facebook. I was dumbfounded by how amazing everyone looked. It seemed her house was magical, it looked edited. I decided to call up my friend and ask her how she managed to make her house and the people in it looked so good in person, and photographs. After begging and pleading she finally revealed her secret. It was all about the lights. She found out what type of light bulb would suit each room best based on color scheme, furniture, and windows. I then did my own research and replaced the bulbs in my house; it looks unbelievable! ....and even better than hers, but we’ll just keep that our little secret.

Here are some tips to help you out:

- Use bulbs that give off a softer light rather than a harsh one such as LED’s. Color temperatures of around 2700K are generally ideal for your living room or dining room.

- It is always good to mix natural lighting with lighting fixtures. If you have rooms with windows or fire places, use soft lights to enhance the existing natural light.

- Using mirrors to reflect the light in your rooms not only flatters the décor of the room itself, flatters but its occupants as well.

- Do not use headlights that have a narrow flood beam, rather use lights that have more of a spread out, wide flood beam.

BulbAmerica.com has an extensive inventory and will without a doubt have light bulbs to fit your every need.

Thy Search Ends Hither- antique bulbs

Thy Search Ends Hither
Gabby Hassan
7/15/13

I have a busy life:

Waking up, going to work, stopping at the grocery store, the cleaners, squeezing in gym days when I can find the time… I just need a break from the hustle and bustle of my rushed day. One would expect to find that at home; they would be wrong. The second I step through the door there is always something that needs cleaning or cooking and I feel like I just cannot catch a break. Over are the days where work stopped at work. Now we have e-mails, cell phones and other technological devices that make it impossible to fully shut myself off from work.

I came to the conclusion that I would create a relaxation room for myself. I spent weeks designing the room with soothing colors and furniture. When I finally finished, I set aside and two hours a week to do nothing but relax in my de- stressing room. The room was fantastic, but I could not help but feel that something was missing. I was browsing online when day when I stumbled upon an ad for vintage light bulbs on BulbAmerica.com. I decided that they would be a real asset to my relaxation room and I purchased them. It was without a doubt one of the best appliances I could have bought to suit my needs. The bulb emits a light unlike any other due to their unique carbon filaments. It is a golden, warm color that reminds me earlier and simpler times, such as those of the 20th century. The bulbs somehow manage to change my rushed frazzled mood to calm, cool and, collected. They even make my room more elegant and sophisticated looking with their dimming options. My search for the missing “it” factor to my room finally ended. I now have my own little sanctuary and escape from reality…. Even if it is for only two hours a week.

Don’t be S.A.D.

Summertime is great; everyone is happy, the days last longer, the sun shines brightly and people spend time outside. On the contrary, the winter season, although beautiful as well, can feel dark or lonely due to the minimized sunlight. Many people experience feeling of increased sadness during the wintertime. This is not abnormal; it is actually a legitimate disorder! It is called Seasonal Affective Disorder, ironically abbreviated as S.A.D. This mood disorder is fairly popular and has various treatments including light therapy with bright lights that mimic sunlight. These bright lights have a high color temperature, generally around 5000K, that emit a blue-ish light similar to that of daylight. In fact, this disorder is so prevalent that universities in cold areas, such as the University of Michigan, have health centers equipped with these special lights to be used at the students disposal.

BulbAmerica.com has a wide variety of these “Happy Lights” for the colddark winter days. These sunshine supplement lights improve your mood, increase productivity, and even serve as an energy enhancer! They also improve your sleeping patterns and overall well being. The Verilux Happy Light comes with a copy of a book written by Dr. Nathan Rosenthal, the doctor who discovered the disorder, detailing the effects of light therapy, and methods of overcoming S.A.D.

S.A.D. is nothing to be ashamed of as 4-6% of the population have been diagnosed with this disorder, and 10-12% have shown symptoms during their lifetime! Its no wonder celebrities like Mischa Barton, Lindsey Lohan, and Rihanna flock to warm venues to avoid the wintertime sadness!

Want to make your very own light bulb?

Want to make your very own light bulb?

By: Gabby Hassan
7/11/2103

In today’s world, you can hardly walk into any complex without seeing light bulbs fixed into the ceiling. We are surrounded by these little appliances that provide us with unlimited light, but we take them for granted. Most of us do not know the work it takes to make just one bulb. That changes now. Here is the Light Bulb making for dummies guide:

Before you even begin, make sure you have the following supplies:

·         One 6- volt battery
·         3ft of shielded copper wire
·         A cork stopper
·         1 inch nail
·         A thin iron wire (a wire from a picture frame will work)
·         A small jar

Follow these steps and create a homemade bulb!

1.       Cut the copper wire into 2 strands that are about 1.5ft each.

2.       Covering the wire is plastic shielding. Remove 1 inch of the shielding from the ends of both strands.

3.       Now use the nail to create 2 holes in the middle of the cork, roughly 1 inch apart.

4.       Take the copper strands and place one end of each 2 inches into the cork holes.

5.       Bend the end of the 2 strand into a hook shape facing the same direction.

6.       Now take out the iron wire and cut 5 strips approximately 1.5-2 inches long.

7.       Twist the 5 strands together with your hands and place the wire onto the copper hooks. *It is important
that it is touching both copper strands.

8.       Take the cork stopper with the embedded wires and place it in the jar.

9.       Take 1 strand of the copper wire not in the jar and wrap it around one end of the battery, and do the same with the other copper strand on the other side of the battery.

What are light bulbs for?
Sounds like a pretty simple question…Most people would answer: They’re for creating light.
While that is true, they also have tons of other uses. You can be creative with bulbs and even find uses for them after they have burned out. Here are some fun ideas:
1)      Did you run out of vases? Turn your old bulb into a charming little vase to hold your flowers!

2)      Want to liven up your backyard or garden? Hang bulbs from the trees to give your house a floaty romantic look and feel.

3)      Just because your light bulb burns out doesn’t mean it can’t be used to make light! Create and oil lamp and use it as a candle as an out of the box retro centerpiece.

4)      Did you spend all your Christmas money buying present for the family and forget to buy ornaments for your tree? No worries, because you can create a fun art and crafts project by decorating bulbs with glitter to make unique beautiful ornaments.

5)      Want to add some fun to your dinner set? Put a salt and pepper shakers on your table…Made out of light bulbs!

6)      Who doesn’t love to play the maraca? Better yet who wouldn’t love to play a maraca made out of a light bulb! Simply and cover it with mache, let it dry, and once the inside glass cracks, you have yourself a top notch instrument.

7)      I get complimented on my bulbs everywhere I go. No, not the ones in my house…the ones on my neck! Making custom jewelry out of my old small bulbs ensures that I have my own one-of-a kind necklace that catches everyone’s attention.

These little ingenious ways of using light bulbs are not only practical and fun, but they’ll have everyone who sees them turning green with envy and admiration. And don’t forget all those old bulbs are going to need replacing so go to BulbAmerica.com for your every light related need!

THE LIGHT BULB

THE LIGHT BULB

July 8th 2013
By: Gabby Hassan

Ever wonder why sayings such as “You light up my life”, “You light up the room”, and “Look for the light at the end of the tunnel” exist?

Why is a great idea represented by an illuminated light bulb on the top of a cartoon’s head?

It is because light is vital to our existence. Without a light source human kind would cease to be. Part of what makes our century or generation more advanced than those before us is the invention of the light bulb; An ingenious little device that allows us to produce light long after the natural source, the sun, has set.

Light enables us to do a variety of activities at night ranging from simply enjoying a book to saving a life. It fuels our economy and creates tourist attraction such as the City of Lights. Our generation has taken the simple bulb and tweaked it to expand its uses. Today we have energy efficient bulbs, colorful bulbs, different shaped bulbs, strong bulbs, bright bulbs, and more. This allows us to get a party started, display products we want to sell, set different moods and countless more…I wonder if Thomas Edison knew what would become of his kite and lightning experiment!

The light bulb is without a doubt one of the greatest inventions of all time. It gives us the power to see, and sight is one of the most revered senses. The light bulb is a sign of intelligence or the development of a brilliant plan. It is for this reason that when a person is compared to “light” in a saying or expression, it is the highest of all compliments. From now on when someone compares you to light think about its significance and give the person a big thanks, and remember the significance of the little contraption called a light bulb.

We understand the importance and value of light bulbs here at BulbAmerica.com and ensure that we offer an enormous variety to suit any and every specific need you might have.  If it lights…we’ve got it.

What would we do if light bulbs didn't exist ?

Here is a great night time exercise for anyone that uses any kind of lighting.

Close your eyes and ask yourself, " What if light bulbs simply didn't exist?

Take a moment to think about how you would fulfill regular everyday routines without them? (In my opinion, the world would be a different place).

The light bulb is perhaps one of the most essential  inventions of our time. With the Light Bulb, we have light after dark, which enables us to enjoy sundown to it's fullest. There are many activities that would not be possible without artificial light but here are a few that I think are vital: preparing meals / eating, performing surgeries, and traveling at night... (feel free to comment to this blog post and add in some of your own).

The list of activities that light bulbs allows us achieve is virtually endless. To name a few, we wouldn't be able to enjoy a nightly stroll, go to restaurants, watch television (we wouldn't be able to find the remote in the dark), and the list can go on forever.

When you take a step back and think about it, light bulbs bring people together. For example: They are the reason families can get together to decorate around Christmas time. They also light up sporting events for the world to watch. Can you imagine Carnival in Rio De Janeiro without any lights! (I get sad just thinking about it).

I would like to close using the old joke about “how many light bulbs does it take to change a light bulb? Its generally a funny question, but for Bulb America, the answer has always been easy to answer. (After all, we have lighting technicians on staff!)

The BulbAmerica.com lighting technicians are here to serve you and if you have a "how many light bulbs does it take" question for them, please comment within our blog and we will be happy to do our best and share an answer.

When 4th of July became my Favorite Holiday

When 4th of July Became My Favorite Holiday

Most kids’ favorite time of the year is Christmas time when they get to cover their house with lights, decorate the tree and receive presents; but not me. My all time favorite time of year, to this day, is July 4th. Every summer growing up, my grandparents would throw a huge BBQ on the beach for the whole town. My family had been hosting this party for as long as I can remember, and overtime it became an established annual gathering for the neighborhood. The food was great, the atmosphere relaxed, easy, and enjoyable, but the real highlight of the day happened at night… yes I’m talking about the light show. However, my family was a little unconventional when it came to this part of the night. Rather than everyone’s attention being directed at the sky for colorful fireworks, the focus was on enormous lighthouse. Each year my father, my grandfather, and I, would work weeks in advance to create a patriotic design made of multicolored bulbs to cover the circumference of the lighthouse. Some of my most cherished memories are of us working together to create this breathtakingly beautiful glowing tribute to our country. There was no better feeling than seeing the reaction of all the guests when the sun went down and the lights came on. It is a tradition that I will never forget, have passed onto my children, and one I intend to pass on to my grandchildren. This year we worked as hard as we ever had to create our best design yet. As our bulbs needed a revamping, we purchased a whole new pack in bulk from http://www.bulbamerica.com
(the bulb can be found here: http://www.bulbamerica.com/ge-25w-120v-a-shape-a19-motifs-red-blue-clear-4th-of-july-decorative-incandescent-light-bulb.html) and were more than satisfied with the service and quality. I count down the hours until I get to sit back with my family and friends and watch the lighthouse come to life. I have a feeling this will be the best year yet.

My Switch from Incandescent to LED bulbs

My Switch from Incandescent to LED

Moving is never easy, especially when faced with the task of decorating a new home. The decisions of what color to paint each room, what kind of furniture to buy, what kind of tile to lay, among more plagued me day in and day out. Believe it or not one of the hardest decisions I faced was what type of light bulbs to install. I did extensive research online, talked to friends and family, and came to the conclusion that LED lights were all around more efficient than the incandescent light bulbs I was so used to. They seemed like the smart choice, and when weighing the pros and cons of LED versus Incandescent bulbs the scale leaned heavily in favor of the LED bulbs. They last longer than 50,000 hours, use less energy than incandescent bulbs, and to top it all off, are better for the environment. So why after all this research was I still hesitant about installing LED lighting? The answer is simple, nevertheless superficial: My vanity. I couldn’t get the stereotypical LED lighting image out of my mind. That bright white that is so unflattering and unnatural. I vented to a friend, telling her what was stopping me from installing the cost efficient, eco- friendly lighting when she burst out laughing. She took me to her living room and asked me if anything seemed strange or uncomfortable. I said of course not, it seemed fine and looked beautiful as I hoped my living room would be. Then she really shocked me…ALL OF HER BULBS WERE LED. The light was so similar to the incandescent lighting I was used to that I couldn’t even tell the difference! It was then and there that I realized I had judged the LED bulbs without even seeing them firsthand. I decided to install them throughout my whole house and could not be happier. It makes me feel good to know I’m doing my part to save the environment, energy, and some money…that was until I bought a new pair of shoes with the money I saved!

Finding the Right Color Temperature

Finding the Right Color Temperature
Color Temperature

What is color temperature and is it important when searching for a light bulb?

The Color Temperature of a bulb describes the color of light emitted from the bulb. Colors range from “warm”, which occurs at around 2700 Kelvins, to “cool bluish” which occurs at around 5000 Kelvins.

How do you know what color temperature is best for you?

2700K-3000K: This color temperature bracket releases a warm light that gets softer as the temperature increases. Most incandescent light bulbs, as well as many florescent bulbs, give off this light. Bulbs with this color temperature are generally used for household rooms as they are the bulbs that most people are familiar with.

3500K- 4100K: This color temperature bracket releases a light ranging from cool to bright white. Uses for this bulb include kitchens and office spaces as the brighter, whiter light gives the room a more professional feel.

5000K- 6500K: This color temperature bracket releases a natural light that resembles daylight. As the
temperature increases, the bulb releases a harsher, bluer light. This harsh light is used in fields where one wishes to see with the utmost clarity, such as architects drawing on white paper.

Each light bulb emanates a different type of light based on their color temperature. You can choose which kind of light best suits your needs based on the descriptions above and the chart below. On our website, Bulbamerica.com  you can find an abundant amount of bulbs with varying color temperatures to satisfy your every need.
